Where have I been?

A couple of years have gone by and I have missed out on sewing.
Life has thrown me a few curve balls. I have had so much happening that my sewing room has only been a stacking zone for things that don't belong there.

I sold my business and helped my parents move twice, aquiring a lot of there stuff in the process.  my father passed away in January of 2015 and I moved my mom again. I have been selling a lot of there things at an antique mall. I blog about that at thefleamarkethome.com .
I am now taking care of mom as she has gone through a hip repair that failed, and now is getting ready for a total hip replacement.  This has created an opportunity for lots of hand sewing.

I want to share some of those things for now, and if I  ever get back to my machines, I will hopefully start cleaning off the cutting table and start stitching daily again.

Another Elegant Hostess

This is by far my favorite hostess apron that I have made. With a layer of teal shantung silk underneath, the shear swirl fabric on top is really highlighted. I added a row of beads along the waistband and the hem for a truly dressed up look. The extra wide waistband and large bow in the back make up the total look. I made two of these for a friend of mine who owns a local coffee shop, she wore hers for a catering event. She gave the other one to the local television meteorologist she knew who showed it on air because she was so impressed with it. Sure made my day!

I have decided to enter this contest. Be sure to check out the other entries!

Keep Calm and Carry On

Happy New Year! After a fast paced and hectic holiday season, I really needed this saying on something. So I stitched it on a pillow for my self and one for sale in the shop! I love this and it came from Meringue Designs. She has some really great modern embroidery designs, be sure to check her website out!

Halloween Hostess

Get ready to host that Halloween party in style. I made this apron from a sheer black fabric with silver mummies over black satin with a large black satin waistband. You could dress up for a costume effect, or make this your costume with a simple black dress or black pants and top.

I was a little concerned about sewing with this sheer fabric, but it was really quite easy. I did a rolled hem on the sheer fabric. I added a huge bow on the back for effect and made the skirt a full circle type. Hope you enjoy this one! I sure did!

Brooke's Towels

To go with the Tween Bedroom Makeover, where I showed the bedding I had made for my granddaughter, these are the towels I made for her bathroom. I monogrammed them with her initial with a great monogram font frame . The rick rack design is so cute and it really says fun to me. Then I trimmed the towels with a matching ribbon that went with her favorite color and her bedding.

I think they turned out great and we all know that tweens really love anything personalized!

Cute, Sassy Apron

Once again, I love fun little aprons. This one was from a remnant I had (I have a little problem with the remnant bin at Joann's). The pattern was Simplicity 3752 and it probably took an hour all total to make. It has a bias tape waist band so that was really quick. It makes me feel happy with all of the little funky flowers on it, I just wish I was as skinny as my little mannequin!

Tween Bedroom Makeover

For my granddaughter's birthday I decided to make her new bedding. I started with the plaid fabric that I already had. And since her favorite color is this turquoise blue, it was the perfect start, or so I thought. I backed it with a solid blue that I got at Wal-mart, which turned out to be her preference, so her it is reversed!

Naturally, a twelve year old girl has to have something really cool and fun, so I found the exact turquoise to match in the super soft eyelash fabric at Joann's and made two euro shams and added in a white eyelash sham to go with them. Lastly, I appliqued some throw pillows in various shapes for accents with her name, initial and a couple of cute flowers. To my relief, she was thrilled! (You never know with twelve year olds.)

Her mom and dad even painted the room to match a few weeks later. I will show those picks when I find the pics of the chair cushion I made her to go with all of this.
